SPICMACAY is...SPICMACAY is a non-profit and completely voluntary organization, which aims to promote an awareness of the rich and heterogeneous Indian cultural tapestry amongst youth. It strives to achieve this by organizing classical concerts and lecture demonstrations in schools and universities through its chapters spread across the globe. We are often asked about the meaning of our eye symbol. The "third eye" logo originated from a symbolic story in the great epic Mahabharata. One day, Parvati, the daughter of mountains, playfully covered Lord Shiva's eyes with both her hands without realizing the consequences. Suddenly the whole universe dipped into darkness - the darkness of ignorance. In a matter of seconds Shiva opened up his third eye, bringing back the light of knowledge. SPICMACAY's birth in India in 1977 represents a similar story. Its aim was to promote the awareness of Indian cultural traditions amongst the younger generation of Indians many of whom had little exposure to Indian classical music and dance. In the years since its founding, SPICMACAY has grown into a nationwide movement with chapters in almost every major city in the country and in several places around the world. Thus SPICMACAY is a movement by, of, and for the youth. We hope that every person's life becomes just that much more enhanced, not only by attending a program but also by getting involved with the movement. It is your movement!Many students touched by SPICMACAY have experienced the beauty and near spiritual joy in their quest for their cultural roots. It is a movement 'for' the youth sustained 'by' the youth. We are currently inviting membership for a new chapter at UC Davis.
